Alina G. Bridges, DO, FAAD
Dr. Alina G. Bridges is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Dermatology and Laboratory Medicine & Pathology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. With over 26 years of experience, she serves as the Director of Dermatopathology and Cutaneous Immunopathology.
Dr. Bridges earned her D.O. degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, followed by Dermatology residency at the University of Cincinnati and fellowships in Dermatopathology and Immunodermatology at the Mayo Clinic. From 2001 to 2020, she was Consultant and ultimately Associate Professor at the Mayo Clinic, Department of Dermatology and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, serving also as Program Director both for the Dermatopathology and Immunodermatology Fellowship (2009-2017) and for the Dermatopathology for Anatomic Pathology training (2009-2020). Prior to joining Northwell in 2022, she served as Director of Immunodermatology at Dermpath Diagnostics.
A dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Bridges has trained over 200 students, residents, fellows, and visiting clinicians, many of whom have gone on to prominent careers. Her research focuses on inflammatory and neoplastic dermatology, with many publications in high-impact journals. Dr. Bridges has directed and chaired courses and sessions at major national and international dermatology meetings, including the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), International Society of Dermatology, Kuwait Dermatology Conference, and the American Society of Dermatopathology (ASDP).
She currently holds leadership roles in several professional organizations, including serving as alternate advisor (ASDP) for the AMA-RUC, Chair of the AAD Dermatopathology Committee, Deputy Chair of the Mohs Committee, Vice Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee of the ASDP. She is on multiple other AAD committees including Curricular Task Force; Health Care Finance, Patient Access and Payer Relations, Resource Based Relative Value Scale, Government Affairs and Health Care Policy Council. She is on the BOD and Finance Committee for the Noah Worcester Dermatological society; mentorship committee for the Women’s Dermatologic Society; Nominations, MOC, AUC, Standards of Practice and History Committees for the ASDP. She is Treasurer of the Long Island Dermatologic Society. She is Associate Editor for Cutis and on the editorial board of the JAAD. She is a member of the American Dermatological Association and Association of Professors of Dermatology.
Beyond her academic and professional accomplishments, Dr. Bridges is committed to advocacy and health care policy at the local, state and national level. She is also deeply involved in her community and dedicated to work-life balance as a mother of three, two of whom have special needs. She launched SHIELD (Skin Health Initiative: Educating and Leading) in Dermatology dedicated to supporting the underserved communities of NY.
Dr. Bridges is passionate about advancing dermatology through leadership, education, research, and patient care, and is eager to contribute her expertise to the AAD Board of Directors.
